Visit of Dr. Bradly Nicholson to the Duke Ruhuna Collaborative Research Centre
The Duke Ruhuna Collaborative Research Centre (DRCRC), Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna, had the privilege of hosting Dr. Bradly Nicholson from 3rd to 10th December 2025.
Dr. Nicholson is the Director of the Molecular Epidemiology Research Laboratory, VA Medical Center, Duke University, and serves as the Lead of the Research Laboratory at the Ruhuna Duke Centre for Infectious Diseases (RDCID).
During his visit, Dr. Nicholson actively engaged with the establishment and advancement of laboratory testing and development activities at the Centre. He contributed significantly to ongoing collaborative research studies titled:
- “Epidemiology, Diagnosis, and Prognosis of Leptospirosis and Scrub Typhus among Agricultural Workers Hospitalized for Community Acquired Febrile Illnesses at the National Hospital Galle”
- “Surveillance for Emerging Infectious Diseases Among Children and Adults in the Community and Hospital Settings in Southern Province, Sri Lanka: A Cross-Sectional Study.”
In addition, Dr. Nicholson provided valuable expertise toward the capacity development of the advanced molecular laboratory at the Ruhuna Duke Centre for Infectious Diseases, strengthening diagnostic, research, and surveillance capabilities.
