Dr. Subodha Wickramasinghe Presents at ASTMH 2025
We are proud to announce that Dr. Subodha Wickramasinghe delivered a poster presentation at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).
Her poster, titled “National Point-Prevalence Survey of Antibacterial Use in Public Hospitals in Sri Lanka: Findings and Implications,” highlighted the first large multi-centre assessment of antibacterial use across public hospitals in Sri Lanka.
This nationwide survey was conducted in 18 public hospitals across six provinces and revealed high rates of antibacterial use, particularly in intensive care units. The findings emphasised the urgent need to strengthen antimicrobial stewardship programmes, improve diagnostic capacity, and reduce unnecessary broad-spectrum antibiotic use.
This work reflects a strong collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna, the Duke–Ruhuna Collaborative Research Centre, the Ministry of Health Sri Lanka, and Duke University, USA.
We warmly congratulate Dr. Wickramasinghe and the entire research team on this significant achievement.
